Shikai is the hardest power progression at launch. Meditate (L) when screen goes dark + dialogue appears above HP bar. ~15-20 meditations unlock white Shikai world. Follow blue orbs to bells (riddles + NPC fights). Build realm through repeated meditations until spirit NPC spawns. Two-phase boss: tutorial fight then stronger clone with Res+Shikai. Blade realm: pick the exact weapon model you're holding. Max Shikai by using it — hold Ctrl + M1/M2.
Meditation & Whisper States
You know you're ready to meditate when your screen goes very dark, audio becomes echoey, and a message appears above your HP/posture bar — voices in your head from your Zanpakuto spirit.
Meditate with L as soon as this state appears. If you meditate without a whisper, you fall asleep — that means the previous meditation completed and you need more combat XP before the next whisper.
Gain whisper states through any gameplay: PvP, parrying, XP gains, fighting mobs. Best method: farm mobs in the open world. Do NOT skip meditations — Shikai maxes slowly if you delay.

Stage 1 — Shikai World & Bells
After ~15-20 successful meditations, your screen goes white and you teleport to the partially-built Shikai world — first major stage.
Follow blue orbs in the air to bells. Each bell assigns a task: some are free passes, others give riddles (easy) or require fighting 2 NPCs (hard — no significant heal after).
Ring every bell by following blue orbs through the crumbling world. The final bell completes Stage 1 and unlocks realm building for Stage 2.

Stage 2 — Build Realm & Spirit Boss
Each meditation after Stage 1 upgrades your Shikai realm — fog clears, new bricks appear, NPC eventually spawns. If empty on entry, leave and meditate more.
The spirit NPC spawns in different locations each visit. He tells you to meditate more until you're strong enough. Keep visiting every meditation session — ~20 more meditations before he allows the fight.
Boss fight has two phases: first a tutorial warm-up NPC, then a stronger clone of yourself with Resurrección and Shikai active. Base VV mechanics (parry, block) carry you through — no cheese needed.

Stage 3 — Blade Realm & Mastery
After a few more meditations post-boss, the spirit offers a blade challenge: find the exact weapon model matching what you hold in the Shikai realm of swords. Reference your equipped weapon — no excuse for wrong picks.
Correct selection unlocks Shikai weapon form. Hold Ctrl + M1/M2 to activate (rebindable). You start with ~2 active Shikai abilities.
Max Shikai mastery by using it in combat — fill the ability XP bar to unlock more skills and passes. Rerollable if you dislike your roll.
