Shikai Boss Fight Guide
Adam_Nateo's Shikai trial strategy — the blade is you, don't greed M1s, use crits and faint, and save skills for safe windows.
// Guide Summary
The Shikai spirit boss is beatable on early attempts — not the impossible wall community hype suggests. Core rules: take your time, don't greed M1 strings, spam critical hits, use faint for free damage, and sparingly use predictable skills (boss punishes spam). Applies to all humanoid VV bosses including Res trial phases.
It's Beatable — Don't Give Up

Community discourse frames the Shikai boss as near-impossible. Adam_Nateo beat it on the second attempt on a first playthrough — the fight rewards discipline, not perfect gear or tester knowledge.
The Shikai trial is a humanoid boss using standard VV mechanics: parry red indicators, dodge yellow AoE, posture break then punish. Phase 2 spawns a stronger clone with Res + Shikai active — same rules, faster pace.
'Realize the blade is you' — treat it as a skill check on fundamentals you've learned since Fort Adams tutorial.
Key Tips
- ▸2nd attempt clear is realistic
- ▸Not a gear check
- ▸Same rules as all humanoid bosses
- ▸Phase 2 = faster clone
Don't Greed M1s

The fastest way to die is mashing M1 after a successful parry. The boss recovers and punishes long strings — take one or two hits, then reset to defensive stance.
Watch for faint (posture break) windows instead of forcing extra M1s. Faint gives guaranteed damage time while the boss is down.
Patience beats aggression. Let the boss attack, parry, punish briefly, back off. Repeat until posture breaks into faint.
Key Tips
- ▸1–2 M1s per opening
- ▸Faint > greedy strings
- ▸Reset to block after punish
- ▸Patience wins
Critical Hits & Faint

Use your critical (heavy attack) frequently — crits drain posture fast and deal solid damage through block. Rebind crit to R if mouse button 3 feels awkward.
After posture break, the boss faints — maximize this window with crit or M1 but don't overextend into recovery frames.
Combine crit pressure with parry trading: crit on cooldown, parry between, faint punish, disengage.
Key Tips
- ▸Crit on cooldown
- ▸Faint = max damage window
- ▸Crit breaks posture fast
- ▸Rebind crit if needed
Sparse Skill Usage

Avoid spamming predictable ability animations. The Shikai boss (and other humanoid NPCs) counter obvious skill startups — you'll eat full combo damage.
Save skills for after faint or when boss is recovering from whiffed AoE. Early-game abilities with long windups are especially risky.
This advice transfers to Res three-phase boss, Securis, and high-rank PvE — fundamentals over ability spam.
Key Tips
- ▸No skill spam
- ▸Skills after faint only
- ▸Long windups = punished
- ▸Works on all humanoid bosses
Boss Fight Fundamentals
| Rule | Action | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Pace | Slow down | Read telegraphs — no panic M1 |
| M1 | Short strings | Greedy M1s = punished |
| Crit | Heavy attack often | Posture break + damage |
| Faint | Use faint windows | Free damage after posture break |
| Skills | Sparse usage | Predictable moves get countered |
