Combat System Guide
Posture rhythm, parry windows, and Reiatsu discipline.
// Guide Summary
Yellow attacks = dodge only (Space/Q). Red attacks = F counter or dodge. Posture bar fills on block — guard break = stun window. Parry (M2 timing) costs no posture and staggers enemies.
Quick Reference
| Attack | Response | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | Block/parry | Parry preferred |
| Red | F or dodge | No block |
| AoE | Dodge/Q | F fails |
| Break | Guard break | Max damage |
What Are Yellow Attacks in VV: ULTIMATUM?
Yellow glow attacks are AoE or special swings that cannot be parried or blocked effectively — you must dodge with Space or reposition with Flash Step (Q).
Misreading yellow as red (pressing F) is the top beginner death cause. Dragonfly slam and Gelum red aura are common teaching examples.
What Is Posture & What Does It Do?
Posture is the guard meter under your HP. Blocking (M2) fills your posture — at 100% you are guard-broken and stunned.
Breaking enemy posture with M3 heavies or crits opens your damage window. Metal innate stat affects posture behavior — negative Metal breaks faster.
How to Parry in VV: ULTIMATUM
Press M2 (block) on the exact frame an attack lands to parry — no posture cost, enemy staggers. Red attacks need F (counter) or dodge instead of standard parry.
Practice on Gelum or weak outskirts mobs before boss fights.

Blocking & Posture

M2 block reduces damage but fills posture. Full posture = Guard Broken (stunned).
Breaking enemy posture with heavies/crits = your damage window.
Posture recovers when not blocking — brief disengage helps.
Parrying

M2 on exact hit frame = parry. No posture damage, enemy staggered.
Single most impactful combat skill. Practice on weak mobs first.
Checklist
- ▸Tight window
- ▸No posture cost
- ▸Enemy stagger
- ▸Practice early
Red Attacks & AoE

Red glow = unblockable. Counter (F) or dodge (Space).
AoE = dodge/Flash Step only. Ground circles telegraph early.
Each boss has unique red timings.
- 1Red → F or dodge
- 2AoE → dodge early
- 3Never block AoE
- 4Q to escape
Reiatsu & Flash Step

Reiatsu fuels Q (Flash Step), skills, racial abilities.
Don't spam Q in boss fights — save for AoE escapes.
Slow regen in combat — disengage to recover.
